Janet and I went to the cabin on Tuesday 6/25 to assess storm damage and begin the process of drying out the bunkhouses which appeared from photos to have taken on water. We found Storm damage was minimal. The only water ingression evindnece in bunkhouses was a small amount on the floor in the big bunkhouse near the door hinge side of the door.
The garage did take on water and there was a 2 inch layer of sand and the corner floor pavers were washed out from water receding after the storm. There was also washout areas along the wall facing the crescent beach and in front of garage dislodging pavers in front of the garage. The step up to the lower deck was missing and was found next to the neighbors deck. The fishing dock was missing a support post on the front left side and the right side end. The outdoor shower had some washout but not enough to affect structural integrity. Pavers leading to the outdoor shower was completely covered 4 inches of sand. There was a large debris line through our front yard.
Thanks to neighbor John Nash who looked in on our cabin the previous weekend and we had a heads up that the water ingression was not as bad as feared.
We purchased used dehumidifiers, two for 100 bucks, before we left home for the cabin. We set up a dehumidifier to run continuously in the large bunkroom on the top bunk and plumbed a short garden hose to drain water out the window. We stayed in the small bunkroom and ran the ac the whole time. We did not find any evidence of water ingression in the small bunkroom.
We hauled shell from the shell beach and repaired the pavers in front of the garage, picked up the debris in the front yard, removed all the sand from the garage floor and repaired the corner paver washouts. We repaired the fishing dock support posts.
The ice machine gave us some issues. The panel lights did not come on but I could hear the compressor so I knew it was running. It was making very little ice and small cubes. I decided the problem was water was not going in from the bottle so I reset the water jug and this seemed to fix the issue.
We used the barge to go over to the island with no issues. The wind was relatively light and out of the south the entire time. We did not attempt to pull the boat up but kept the boat achored on the shell beach out of the wind with no issues.
