Cabin Passdown from JoeBrown on 2024-08-01

Cabin Trip 8/1 to 8/6 2024 Eric, Erin, Joe and Janet used the cabin from Thursday August 1st to August 8th. Eric and Erin went back home on Sunday, Janet and I stayed until Tuesday. We used the triton without issues other than the trailer jack was frozen up and I had to buy a new one and install before I could get it out of storage. I tried unsuccessfully to free the old one up and finally gave up and purchased a new one along with a can of penetrating oil from Wetland Marine. After removing the old one and replacing with the new one, the new jack would not go down far enough for my hitch and I wound up using my truck jack. I suggest we leave two 4 ft 2x6 boards in storage to back your truck on for such occasions. We had sunny weather but light winds. The mosquitos were very bad for most of the weekend. Trout were good under the lights but without the fishing dock it was pretty scary landing the fish at night. I came back with eight keepers gutted and gilled. We used the vacuum sealer and froze them as we caught them. The beach side was low surf and clear water. The road over to the beach had some deep mudholes the first couple of days. I stayed right in the middle without any problems. By the time we left the mudholes were almost gone. Never went further up the beach than the buoy. We set up the canopy on the beach one afternoon along with neighbor Jeff Thomas and his wife Linda. Janet and I decided to stay on and come out Monday. On Monday we decided to stay and come out Tuesday morning( Ahh, the retired life šŸ˜Š.) We came out Tuesday morning without incident. Sadly, on Monday afternoon we received word from El Paso that Janetā€™s brother Leo passed away unexpectedly. Leo absolutely loved visiting the cabin. After Samā€™s initial trip to the cabin after the hurricane, during which he repaired the two solar panels and straightened the outdoor shower, he sent a list of items that still needed to be addressed. I picked up the items we would need to do the repairs including the paint, which Sam sent me a pic of the can with the barcode which I showed the lady at Lowes. We noticed after we were painting that we were using interior paint. I picked up some sandbags since my plan was to fill in the washed out areas with sandbags in hopes that they would stay in place in the next tidal surge. I also picked up a wheelbarrow for the cabin at Lowes for 80 bucks.
